Night Fishing Magic in Key Biscayne

Get ready for an after-dark adventure on the waters of Key Biscayne! Our 5-hour night fishing trip is perfect for anglers looking to mix things up and experience the thrill of hooking into some serious fish under the stars. Whether you're itching to tangle with monster snook lurking in the shadows or hoping to spot the silver flash of a tarpon rolling on the surface, this trip's got a little something for everyone. We'll set you up with all the gear you need, so all you've gotta do is show up ready for action.

What to Expect on the Water

As the sun dips below the horizon, we'll head out into the calm evening waters around Key Biscayne. The cooler nighttime temps make for comfortable fishing, and you'll be amazed at how the waterways come alive after dark. Our expert captain knows all the local hotspots where fish tend to feed at night, so we'll have you on the fish in no time. We'll primarily focus on inshore fishing, targeting structure and areas where predatory fish like snook and tarpon hunt under cover of darkness. If conditions are right, we might even venture a bit offshore to try our luck with some hard-fighting pelagics.

Night Fishing Know-How

Night fishing requires a different set of skills and techniques compared to daytime angling. We'll gear you up with specialized equipment designed for after-dark fishing, including lights to attract bait and fish. You'll learn how to use your other senses - like hearing and touch - to detect bites when visibility is low. We'll show you how to work lures that mimic nocturnal prey, like topwater poppers that create a commotion on the surface or soft plastics that imitate shrimp skittering along the bottom. Don't worry if you're new to night fishing - our captain will be right there to guide you every step of the way, from rigging up to landing your catch.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Snook: These elusive "linesiders" are a top target for night fishing enthusiasts. Snook love to ambush prey around structure like docks, mangroves, and bridge pilings. They put up an incredible fight, often making powerful runs and acrobatic jumps. Nighttime is prime time for big snook, as they move into shallower water to feed under the cover of darkness. The thrill of hearing a big snook crush a topwater lure in the pitch black is something you won't soon forget!

Tarpon: Known as the "silver king," tarpon are one of the most sought-after gamefish in Florida. These prehistoric-looking fish can grow to over 100 pounds and are famous for their spectacular aerial displays when hooked. Night fishing for tarpon can be especially productive, as they often roll on the surface to gulp air, making them easier to spot. We'll target them around bridges, channels, and other areas with moving water where they ambush bait.

Cero Mackerel: These speedsters are cousins to the more well-known king mackerel, but they're every bit as fun to catch. Ceros have a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth and will absolutely smoke a bait, often jumping and tailwalking across the surface when hooked. We might encounter them if we venture a bit offshore, especially around structure or bait schools.

Crevalle Jack: Pound for pound, jacks are some of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean. These bulldogs of the sea travel in schools and will attack just about any bait or lure that comes their way. At night, we often find them busting bait on the surface - the commotion can sound like a herd of horses galloping across the water!

Black Grouper: While we primarily target them during the day, big black grouper will sometimes venture out of their rocky lairs to feed at night. These bruisers can grow to over 100 pounds and are known for their powerful initial run, trying to break you off in the rocks. If we hook into one of these guys, you'll be in for a true test of strength and endurance.

Top Catches This Season

The night bite has been on fire lately! We've been seeing some monster snook in the 20-30 pound range crushing live baits around dock lights and bridge pilings. Tarpon fishing has also been red hot, with several fish in the 80-100 pound class being jumped each week. The unpredictable nature of night fishing means you never know what might show up - we even had a customer land a 50-pound cobia that came up to investigate our lights last week!

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

There's just something special about being out on the water at night. The peacefulness of the evening, broken only by the splash of a feeding fish or the whir of your reel as something big takes off with your bait. It's a totally different experience from daytime fishing, and many anglers find it addictive once they give it a try. Plus, the cooler temperatures make for a much more comfortable trip, especially during the hot summer months. Night fishing often produces bigger fish too, as the cover of darkness gives them confidence to move into shallower water and feed more aggressively.

Black Grouper

Black grouper are the heavyweights of Key Biscayne's reefs. These olive-colored brutes average 2-3 feet but can reach over 100 pounds. You'll find them lurking around deep reefs and wrecks, typically in 60-250 foot depths. Winter and spring are prime seasons. Grouper are prized for their firm, white flesh - some of the best eating in the sea. They're not speedsters, but they'll use every ounce of their bulk to dive for cover. I like dropping live bait or big jigs right to the bottom. When you feel that thump, reel fast and pull hard to keep 'em out of the rocks. Watch out for sharks trying to steal your catch on the way up!

Cero Mackerel

Cero mackerel are like the sleeker, faster cousins of Spanish mackerel. These torpedo-shaped predators usually run 5-10 pounds but can reach up to 17 pounds. You'll find them zipping around clear coastal waters, often near reefs in 20-60 foot depths. They're here year-round but really fire up in the warmer months. Ceros are prized for their tasty, firm flesh - great for sashimi or ceviche. They're a blast to catch too, making blistering runs when hooked. I like using small, shiny lures or live bait like pilchards. Cast into schools of bait and retrieve fast - these guys love a chase. Just watch those teeth when unhooking them!

Cero Mackerel

Crevalle Jack

Crevalle jacks are the bulldogs of Key Biscayne's waters. These broad-shouldered bruisers average 3-5 pounds but can top 60 pounds. Look for them busting bait on the surface - they often push schools up, creating a frenzy with diving birds. Jacks hang around year-round but are most active in warmer months. They're not great eating, but pound-for-pound, few fish fight harder. When you hook one, hold on tight! I like using topwater lures or live bait. A local trick: if you smell something like watermelon, there's probably a school of jacks nearby. Cast into the mayhem and get ready for an arm-wrenching battle.

Crevalle Jack

Snook

Snook are one of the top gamefish here in Key Biscayne. These silver-sided predators average 24-30 inches but can grow over 40 inches. You'll find them around mangroves, docks, and bridges, especially at night when they come out to feed. Snook put up an awesome fight - they'll make blistering runs and jump clear out of the water. Late spring through fall is prime time, with spawning peaks around the new and full moons. Their meat is delicious, but they're heavily regulated, so most are catch-and-release. When targeting snook, I like using live bait like pilchards or pinfish. Cast right up against structure and be ready for explosive strikes. Just watch out for those gill plates - they're razor sharp!

Snook

Tarpon

Tarpon are the kings of Key Biscayne's inshore waters. These massive silver fish can top 100 pounds and put on aerial displays that'll leave you in awe. We find them in channels, around bridges, and rolling on the flats. Spring and early summer are peak seasons as they migrate through. Tarpon aren't known for their eating quality, but the sheer power and acrobatics make them a bucket-list catch for many anglers. They've got hard, bony mouths, so setting the hook can be tricky. I like to use circle hooks with live bait - let them take it and start moving before reeling tight. Once hooked up, be ready for a long, arm-burning battle. Just remember to keep 'em in the water for a quick release.
