Hey there, angler! Ready to hit the waters of Miami for some top-notch fishing action? Our 4-hour private trip with Reel'n Tails Charters is just the ticket. We'll cruise to the hottest spots, put you on fish, and make sure you have a blast – whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time holding a rod. With Miami's skyline as your backdrop, you'll be hooking into snapper, mahi-mahi, and maybe even a hard-fighting tarpon. Let's break down what makes this trip a can't-miss adventure.
Picture this: You and two buddies (or family members – we don't judge) hop aboard our well-equipped boat for four solid hours of fishing. We've got all the gear you need, so no worries if you're traveling light. Our experienced captain knows these waters like the back of their hand, so you're in for some serious action. We'll hit inshore spots, maybe venture a bit offshore if the bite is on, and target whatever's running hot that day. Snapper, mahi, jacks – you name it, we're after it. And hey, if you're new to this, don't sweat it. We'll show you the ropes and have you fishing like a local in no time.
On this trip, we're all about versatility. We might start off bottom fishing for those tasty snappers, then switch it up to some light trolling for mahi if we spot some birds working. If the tarpon are rolling, we'll break out the live bait and sight cast to these silver kings. We use top-notch gear – light tackle for most species, but we've got the heavy stuff if a big boy decides to play. Expect to use a mix of live bait and lures, depending on what's working. And don't worry, we'll walk you through each technique as we go. It's all about adapting to what the fish want, and that's where our local know-how really shines.

Tarpon: The silver king is the stuff of legends. These massive, acrobatic fish can top 100 pounds and will test every bit of your fishing skills. When they're in season (typically spring and early summer), hooking into one of these monsters is an experience you'll never forget. They're catch-and-release only, but the fight is worth its weight in gold.
King Mackerel: These speedsters are a blast to catch. Known for their blistering runs, kings can smoke a reel in seconds. We usually target them by slow-trolling live bait or casting lures. Fall is prime time for kings, but we can find them year-round. And if you're looking for some good eating, these smoky-flavored fish are hard to beat.
Mahi Mahi: Also known as dorado or dolphinfish (no relation to Flipper), these colorful acrobats are a favorite for good reason. They fight hard, jump like crazy, and taste amazing. We find them offshore, often around floating debris or weed lines. Summer is the peak season, but we can catch them most of the year. Nothing beats the sight of a neon blue and yellow mahi lighting up the water.
Crevalle Jack: Want a fish that pulls like a freight train? Meet the jack crevalle. These bruisers aren't known for their table fare, but pound-for-pound, they're some of the hardest fighting fish in the sea. We find them busting bait schools near the surface, and watching them destroy a topwater lure is pure fishing gold. They're around all year, but really fire up in the warmer months.
Black Grouper: These bottom-dwelling brutes are the kings of structure fishing. We drop baits near reefs and wrecks to tempt these tasty giants. It takes some muscle to pull them away from their rocky homes, but the reward is sweet – grouper make for some of the best fish tacos you'll ever taste. We can target them year-round, but they're especially active in the cooler months.
So there you have it, folks – four hours of non-stop fishing action in one of the most beautiful settings you could ask for. Whether you're looking to bend a rod, learn some new techniques, or just enjoy a day on the water with good company, this trip delivers. Our captains are local legends who live and breathe these waters, and they're itching to put you on the fish of a lifetime. With only three spots per trip, you'd better book fast – these puppies fill up quick, especially during peak season. So what are you waiting for? Grab your sunscreen, your lucky hat, and let's go fishing, Miami style!

Unforgettable Night Fishing with Captain Anthony! We went out with Captain Anthony last night and had an incredible time. As a native Miamian, he knows the waters like the back of his hand and put us right on the fish. We brought my 12-year-old nephew along, and Anthony was fantastic with him—patiently teaching him proper techniques and making sure his line was always in the water. The result? Our young angler outfished us all, and he hasn’t stopped talking about it since—declaring it his best fishing trip ever! We battled several tarpon that got the best of us novice tarpon fishermen, but we still came home with a great haul of big mangrove snapper. Now, they’re being fried up with slaw, hushpuppies, and fries for a classic Southern lunch, while the biggest ones are headed for the grill with garlic lemon butter, mushroom risotto, and Caesar salad—plenty to feed the whole family! I highly recommend a trip with Captain Anthony for an unforgettable experience, great fishing, and memories that last a lifetime. Thank you, Captain!

Black Grouper are reef toughies that'll test your muscle. These olive-colored ambush predators average 20-40 pounds but can top 100. You'll find them around reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottom from 60-250 feet deep. They're here year-round but bite best in cooler months. Grouper are prized for their firm, white meat. Dropping live bait or big jigs near structure is the way to go. Once hooked, they'll try to dive back into their rocky lairs, so you need to turn them quick. It's a true tug-of-war. Local secret: Try a live blue runner for big grouper - they can't resist 'em. Just remember, these fish are strong and smart, so heavy gear and quick reflexes are a must.
Crevalle Jack are the bulldogs of the flats. These golden bruisers usually run 5-15 pounds but can hit 30+. You'll find them in bays, around jetties, and in the open ocean, often in big schools. They're here year-round but most active in warmer months. Jacks aren't great eating, but they're some of the hardest-fighting fish pound-for-pound. Watch for birds diving or bait getting pushed to the surface - that's often jacks on the hunt. They'll hit just about any lure or bait, but topwater plugs make for exciting strikes. When you hook one, hold on tight and be ready for a long fight. Pro tip: Let them run initially to tire them out, or they might break you off in the first few seconds.
King Mackerel, or Kingfish, are speedsters that'll test your gear. They average 15-30 pounds but can top 50. Look for them in open water, usually 30-150 feet deep, from spring through fall. Kings are aggressive predators, often found near bait schools. Trolling with live bait or spoons is popular, but slow-trolling live blue runners is a local favorite. These fish make blistering runs and taste great on the grill. Watch for birds diving - that's often a sign kings are pushing bait to the surface. When you hook one, be ready for screaming reels and acrobatic jumps. Quick tip: Use wire leaders to prevent bite-offs from their razor-sharp teeth.
Mahi Mahi, also called Dorado, are some of the most beautiful fish you'll catch. They're known for their vibrant blues and greens, and they can grow up to 50 pounds, though 15-30 is more common. You'll find them in open water, often near floating debris or weed lines. Spring and summer are prime seasons. Mahi are fast growers and great fighters, known for acrobatic leaps. They're also excellent table fare. We often troll for them with ballyhoo or artificial lures, but sight-casting to a school can be a blast. Look for birds circling - that often means Mahi are below. Here's a trick: Once you hook one, keep it in the water. Others in the school will often stay close, giving you shots at multiple fish.
Tarpon are the showstoppers of Miami's waters. These silver kings can reach 6 feet long and 100+ pounds, known for spectacular aerial displays when hooked. You'll find them in coastal waters, channels, and around bridges, especially from spring through fall. Tarpon love structure and moving water, so we target them around inlets and passes. They're not great eating, but the fight is unmatched - prepare for an arm-wrenching battle that can last over an hour. Live bait like mullet or crabs work well, but artificial lures can be effective too. Pro tip: When a tarpon jumps, lower your rod tip to prevent them from throwing the hook. Just remember, landing one of these giants takes patience and stamina.
